Aus dieser Motivation heraus wurde sie zur Schlüsselfigur einer gefährlichen Miliz, deren einziges Ziel das Überleben ist. Dann tritt ein unfassbares Phänomen auf der Rückseite des Mondes auf, wo die Besatzung des Spaceshuttles "Atlantis" eine Begegnung mit dem Schicksal hat - und mit ihr die gesamte Menschheit.
