Im August 1936 kommen Mattéo, Amélie und deren Freund Augustin in Barcelona an. Amélie und Mattéo reisen weiter an die Front.
Mattéo wird aufgrund seiner Kampferfahrung im Ersten Weltkrieg Anführer eines Trupps von Republikanern, der ein kleines Dorf erobern soll.
Tatkräftige Unterstützung bekommt er von der polnischen Sportlerin Anechka und dem britischen Piloten Sir Mermoza.
Doch wird das genügen, um das Dorf zu erobern? Jean-Pierre Gibrat gelingt es in prächtigen Bildern, eine Episode des Spanischen Bürgerkriegs lebendig werden zu lassen.
